  • MNY 265 This was one of the (many) polishes I picked up in Germany earlier this year

MNY is a funky Maybelline brand that I've not seen for sale anywhere in the UK. I picked up several from this brand as they had some fun and unusual colours.

Let's kick off with one I wasn't sure about....

This is 265, a raspberry jelly with fine holographic glitter

I'm not usually a fan of jellies or the vnl that goes with it but this is really pretty and I can just about overlook the VNL.

This is 3 coats, unfortunately there wasn't a lot of sun when I took these photos so the holographic glitter doesn't really jump out, but it is pretty subtle

    Close-ups to show the glitter

Overall I liked this better than I expected and it's definitely unique in my collection.

Has anyone else tried these MNY's? or spotted them in the UK?

  • GOSH -Metallic Green It is still August right? The weather in the UK this month has been terrible - this week it has rained, rained and rained some more.

    Where is our summer?!

So as the weather has been so terrible for swatching I'm sharing an old swatch with you.

This is GOSH, the imaginatively named Metallic Green!

    Sun

This is two coats with no top coat. I'm not sure if this is a foil or a pearl, it was easy to apply and surprisingly brushstroke free - so does that mean it's a pearl?

Either way it's a nice colour & finish.

  • Ciaté - Sugared Almonds Gawd, sorry gals - I've been away too long. After the fab holiday in France, the much less fab tummy bug from hell (tip - don't swallow the river water!) followed by kitchen painting, crappy internet speeds and back to work I haven't had time to swatch or post.

So here's an old swatch, another from my small but perfectly formed Ciaté Paint Pots collection. This is Sugared Almonds.

Sugared Almonds is a pinky/peachish nude. This colour reminds me of vintage silk lingerie, it has a very elegant 40's feel to it and I really like it. Which of course is only emphaised by the cute vintage-style bottles.

It's not quite manequin hands on me but a pretty, fresh nude. Love it.

Application was good and this was 3 coats.

    Ciaté retail for £9

  • Stuttgart Haul No NOTD posts from me this week as I'm away on a conference in Sindelfingen which is just outside Stuttgart in Germany.

Thankfully I found a little time yesterday to head to the nearest mall where I managed to pick up some polish, including what I really wanted to find - the new Catrice.

Unfortunately the Catrice display was a little depleted so I wasn't able to get all the ones I wanted (and that my fellow uk nail polish obsessives put orders in for!) but still a nice haul I think...?

I also got some ArtDeco and Beju

  • Ciate Refresher  It's been mostly sunny and bright but crisp here in the UK today, well at least the part where I am, and this polish is bright and crisp too.

Mind you I've been stuck in an office all day, but I can't complain too much as our offices overlook the river Thames, all the trees are in bud or bloom so it's actually quite lovely, if somewhat distracting.  Not as bad as in the summer when all the party boats come past....

Anyhow, on to the polish - this is Refresher by Ciaté, a pale powder blue hint of periwinkle.

It was a bit tricky to work with, streaky (not uncommon with pastel cremes) and I had to be careful with polish drag.  This is 3 coats which isn't too bad and I love the finished effect.

The name made me think of Refresher sweets from my childhood but I was curious as I didn't remember them having blue sweets, they were certainly pastel but green, pink and orange or yellow.  But a quick search on google turned up another sweet called Refreshers, a chewy sweet, whose background colour looks very similar to this!

  • Beauty UK - Glam Nails - Electric Purple This is another cheapie brand I found in Superdrug, I have bought several of their eye shadow collections (very cheap but good colour payoff and handy size for travelling) but never seen the nail polish before. Again I think this was a Sheffield or Solihull purchase.

    Please welcome, Electric Purple

    Shade

    Nubar Matte topcoat

It's a bright purple with fuschia shimmer and fine glitter

It's slightly sheer, this is 3 coats, no topcoat, apart from the matte tc in the 2nd pic!

I really like it with the matte topcoat, makes it feel less 80s!

Any other UK gals seen these around?

And I haven't forgotten about my giveaway it's just been a hectic week and it's taking longer to sort out than I thought!

  • BYS - Envy Me
    Sun

    Shade

Envy Me is a light green frost/pearl

It's a pretty colour but this is 4 coats and I still have some VNL and it's pretty brushstrokey.

But not bad for the bargain BYS price, around £2.50

From my limited experience BYS wins hands down over Bloom in the the Aussie polish wars.

  • Bloom - Kate This is the other Bloom I picked up a few months ago - unfortunately there wasn't a huge selection of colours in the Superdrug in Sheffield although more than any other Superdrug I'd been in!

    Shade

    Sun

Kate is a pale blue creme, the application, as is common with pastel cremes, was tricky. This is 2 coats and I probably should've done 3.

It's a lovely colour and look ma, no lobster hands!

Overall I wasn't overly impressed with either of the Blooms I tried, there wasn't exactly anything wrong with them but they weren't as fabulous as I had hoped for the price (around £8 IIRC)
